in Beer

Did you know that beer is one of the oldest if not the oldest alcoholic beverage? An ancient recipe of beer was found by archeologists in a dig in Egypt near Queen Nefertiti’s temple.

Pilgrims on the Mayflower that would have continued sailing to Virginia would not discover the Plymouth Rock if they did not run out of beer and were forced to find land.Vikings believe that when they die a giant goat is waiting in Valhalla to provide endless supply of beer from its udder.

These are myths of course. However, there is truth to the fact that happy hours would not be happy without the bottomless supply of this alcoholic drink and watching Shaquille O’Neal on the tube would not be as exciting without an ice cold bottle of beer!

To drink or not to drink beer

Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage worldwide. A six pack is a mainstay in any household’s fridge. However, drinking beer is equated to hangover and not many people can stand the smell of anyone who has binged on the drink.

Unsightly pot bellies are blamed to habitual consumption of this alcoholic drink. Unlike vintage wines, beers are widely available at very affordable prices. Anyone can replenish their supply anytime from the stocks of convenience stores.

Contrary to common beliefs, beer is actually good for the health. A person would reap healthful benefits by consuming a bottle a day of this brew as beer contains good cholesterol and triglycerides. Malt, an ingredient in brewing beer contains polyphenols, an antioxidant that fights certain types of cancer.

Naturally, beer would only be good for the health if consumed in moderation. This does not mean that six packs after six packs will have to be consumed in one sitting. Taken moderately, beer is definitely a healthy drink. So what…bottoms up?
